If all the candles are lit up, it’s another instant KO attack on your entire team. Basically just another “Megidolaon!” Now we just have Johnny and Jinx. For Johnny, it’s 1 on 1 between Mario and Johnny, and you can’t use your items. And for Jinx, you need to fill the teamwork gauge to 100% and use a triple move. Don’t mess up the timing for your attacks or Jinx will counterattack with Silver Bullet. After those are done, you can face off with HIM again.

I recall there being an alternate method of unlocking them that didn't require a gameshark. It was like you selected one of the characters at the top of the select screen and then pressed up or selected a certain character at the right side of the screen and then pressed right. And then even though there was no indication the secret character was selected, it would be your selected character when you pressed the button to confirm the selection and start the match. Yet I can't find any documentation online now for this non-hacking way of selecting the secret characters (that typically require an gameshark to select).

JP/EU: When your playing the hardest game ever, and you're finally about to beat the most impossible boss but your WiFi disconnects momentarily and you have to wait for it to reconnect but only for a short while. US: Same as the above, but instead of the WiFi disconnecting, your PlayStation, Xbox or PC (or laptop) and/or your TV overheats and commences the emergency shutdown function and shuts down outta nowhere to prevent overheating and further damage just as you're about to beat that same final boss. Both when you let Sonic stand around for 3 minutes before he says: "I'm outta here!": When you've decided that enough is enough and you quit your job which you hate so much with zero goodbyes.

What makes this opening even better is how this cutscene essentially teaches you how the game works. How different robos have different styles of jumping. How you shouldn’t be overly dependent on guns, how bombs and pods are just as effective and deadly when strategically used. defeating robos gets you new parts, using cover to dodge certain attacks. And the climax shows how Ray won by strategy instead of power, which the enemies were using. Also the cutscene never ages outside its 480p quality
